Here's the deal about all the anonymous messages we keep seeing on Instagram these days

For sure you've come across it too.

On Instagram, people have been asking their friends and followers to ask them anonymous questions, or send anonymous messages through a clickable link via Instagram Stories.

NGL, derived from Internet slang "Not Gonna Lie," is the app behind the most recent trend. Unlike its predecessors — Formspring, Ask.fm, CuriousCat, and even Tumblr, where anonymous messages is the currency — NGL is accessible, and with just a few taps, utterly convenient.

Using NGL is easy. All you have to do is download the app from your smartphones, generate your own NGL link, upload it on your Instagram Stories, and prepare your hearts for whatever messages you're about to get!

The catch: You can only respond to your anonymous messages via Instagram Stories and nowhere else. Once you click the message, if you choose to reply, you will be redirected back to Instagram Stories, where you can share your responses to, well, a wider audience.

If the anonymous messages you get make you a little more curious to know who send them, NGL has an option to upgrade your account into premium, which costs P519 for seven days. Once you go premium, the app will drop some hints about the sender.

Pro-tip: The extra spend is not worth it. The dropped hints is only on the sender's general location (near Calabarzon, for instance), and the kind of phone used to send messages (as in iPhone 8).

The whole experience is funny, curious, and titillating in the confessional kind of way.

So if you're reading this, and your crush has posted the NGL, here's your sign to shoot that message. — LA, GMA News
