74-year-old lola goes viral after shooting like Steph Curry in arcade game

A 74-year-old grandmother in Calamba, Laguna has gone viral after she was spotted shooting like Steph Curry in an arcade game.

As seen in Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Friday, Lola Flordeliza Austria scored 554 points after just a few minutes of shooting.

According to Jeth Almador, who took the video and uploaded it on social media, Lola Flordeliza showed no signs of tiring as she shot the ball rapidly like a boss.

"Naging hobby ko na siya before mag-60 years old ako. Nag-start na ako magbasketball," she said. "I'm proud to say healthy ang ginagawa ko."

Lola Flordeliza said that she was already sporty way back in high school, when she joined all sorts of sports festivals.

Nonetheless, she felt "overwhelmed and flattered" after she went viral for her shooting prowess.

Lola Flordeliza said it's her Christmas wish that more people would support women's basketball in the Philippines.

"No offense to the boys, nowadays kaya na naman ng girls talagang gawin 'yung ginagawa ng boys. Kayang-kaya ng Pinoy," she said.

Did you know that girls were actually the first to play basketball when the Americans introduced the sport to Filipinos back in 1910?

Kuya Kim said the girls played in interscholastic meets from 1911 to 1913 but the Church opposed it because they wore bloomers. They were eventually allowed to play basketball but they had wear skirts.

The girls did not like this development, so they turned their attention to other sports like volleyball and softball.

Nowadays, women's basketball has come a long way in the Philippines. The national team won back to back gold medals in the Southeast Asian Games in 2019 and 2021, while Jack Animam proudly represents the country in Serbia as the first Pinay cager to play professionally in Europe.
