Giant langka weighing over 51 kilos harvested in Davao City
A jackfruit harvested in Davao City has gone viral thanks to its enormous size.
According to Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, the giant langka weighs over 51 kilograms.
The farm owner posted photos of his huge harvest on social media, to the delight of many netizens.
"Nagulat kami dahil sobrang laki siya edi natuwa kami ng wife ko, nagpa-picture kami. Ang daming nag-react at ang daming natuwa," said Emmanuel Belviz.
He said one commenter made him aware that his giant langka beats the current Guinness World Record holder for the biggest jackfruit.
The record is held by a fruit company in Maharashtra, India, which harvested a jackfruit measuring 22.5 inches long, 52 inches in circumference, and 42.72 kilograms.
While many people were amazed with the size of Emmanuel's jackfruit, the farm owner said it is actually considered a reject product.
"Hindi 'yan ang desired size namin. The bigger the fruit kasi, 'yung sweetness niya bumababa, 'yung quality niya bumababa din. Sobrang laki kasi minsan nagka-crack," he said.
"The best size for jackfruit is around 15-25 kg per fruit so it will have the optimum sweetness."
To avoid putting the overly large fruits to waste, Emmanuel said they use it to make jams or dehydrated jackfruit.
But how did the jackfruit grew to become that big?
"Kaya malaki siya masyado kasi wala siyang kasama sa tree na 'yun. 'Pag maraming fruit kasi regular sized lang 'yung jackfruit. But kung nag-iisa o tatlo lang siya, lahat ng nutrients kasi pumupunta sa isang fruit lang," Emmanuel said.
