10 new National Artists of the Philippines named

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has named 10 new National Artists of the Philippines through Proclamation No. 1414 s. 2026.

They are Nicanor Tiongson and Gregorio Brillantes (Literature), Imelda Cajipe Endaya and Nunelucio Alvarado (Visual Arts), Gabriel Formoso (Architecture), Rafael "Nonoy" Froilan (Dance), Maria Beatriz "Patis" Tesoro (Design), Armado "Bing" Lao (Film and Broadcast Arts), Teodoro Hilado (Theater), and Alfredo S. Buenaventura (Music).

Formoso, Lao, Brillantes, and Hilado received the honor posthumously.

It had been four years since the last batch of National Artists were named.

The new National Artists join the likes of Ricky Lee and Nora Aunor (Film and Broadcast Arts), Ryan Cayabyab (Music), Ang Kiukok (Visual Arts), Virgilio Almario (Literature), Alice Reyes (Dance), Tony Mabesa (Theater), Leandro Locsin (Architecture), and many more. —with a report from Giselle Ombay/MGP, GMA News
