Filipino theater stalwart Enchang Kaimo dies

Filipino theater actress and director Enchang Kaimo has died.

Her husband, Mari Kaimo, announced her passing on Facebook, sharing a Bible passage and reflecting on their 45 years together.

“On this month 45 years ago, God brought me the helper who would be suitable for me. Today, He took her back unto Himself,” Mari said.

He added that Enchang was now free from the pain and struggles of life and expressed hope that they would be reunited when Christ returns.

Mari accompanied his announcement with a photo of them deep conversation but looking totally relaxed. It was taken after the 25th anniversary celebration of The 700 Club in October 2019, Mari said.

Clearly mourning the passing of his wife, Mari shared a couple of tribute posts for Enchang including one by producer and PLDT Chief Operating Officer Butch Jimenez, who remembered Enchang’s contributions to theater through the theater group Trumpets.

Jimenez recalled that Enchang and Mari were among those who invited him to a meeting of theater artists decades ago, which led to his involvement with Trumpets and its advocacy of sharing the Christian faith through theater.

“We will miss your spitfire energy, Enchang,” he wrote, adding that the group would restage “First Name” to pay tribute to her portrayal of Amy.

In another tribute message that Mari reposted, he expressed both grief over her passing and comfort in her faith.

“Am so heartbroken yet also rejoicing that our beloved Enchang is with our Heavenly Father. No more pain, my dearest Enchang. Till we’re together again in God’s perfect time,” the message read.

Enchang was a longtime figure in Philippine theater, with earlier work at Repertory Philippines.

She was also among the theater artists involved in establishing Trumpets alongside Mari, Audie Gemora, Freddie Santos, and Luna Inocian.

Enchang is survived by her husband and children, including theater actor and singer Khalil Kaimo.
