The Metropolitan Museum of Manila on Tuesday announced the start of admission of entries for its first-ever MET OPEN 2014, a benefit exhibition open to all visual artists nationwide.

With the theme “The Philippine Contemporary: To Scale the Past and the Possible,” the MET OPEN 2014 aims to feature modern and contemporary artworks in various visual art forms such as paintings, sculptures and architecture models.

In a press statement, MET said the artworks that would be selected by the MET OPEN Exhibition Committee will be exhibited at the Museum's Tall Galleries from September 8 to 20.

The deadline for the submission of entries is on August 16, 2014.

“Six of the country's respected curators shall lend their expertise to curate the exhibition and annotate on the divergent practices in the visual arts today,” the MET said.

“The exhibition will prove to be a prestigious opportunity for new creations of promising artists to dialogue with important artworks of established figures in the art scene.

“It provides a rare occasion for artists to pose continuing challenges for visual and conceptual innovation,” the MET statement added.

In its website, the MET said it will accept artworks dating from 1915 to the present.
