WATCH: Historic battle of Magellan, Lapu-Lapu recalled in Kadaugan in Cebu

Residents of Cebu province on Monday commemorated the historic battle of Mactan with the Kadaugan sa Mactan.

 

The event recalls how Mactan chieftain Lapu-Lapu prevailed over Ferdinand Magellan nearly 500 years ago.

Cebu's provincial government said Kadaugan sa Mactan is a weeklong commemoration of the historic battle in Lapu-Lapu City.

 

It has activities highlighted by musical productions culminating with the famous battle, food street and live band entertainment.

 

Street party

 

Last weekend, residents and tourists took part in a street party, GMA Cebu's Nikko Sereno reported Monday.

 

A road at the second Mactan-Mandaue Bridge area was closed to traffic to make way for the festivities.

 

Cartoon characters were featured in a float parade, while a cosplay contest was held at the Hopes Dome.

 

The weekend also saw the coronation of the Reina Bulakna 2015. Bulakna was the wife of Lapu-Lapu. This year's winner was Euvelyn Samson of Barangay Looc. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
