Traveling exhibit to show handicrafts from Japan’s earthquake-hit Tohoku region

A traveling exhibition commemorating the creative output of Japan's Tohoku region, which was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami in 2011, will be on display at Ayala Museum in June and July.

"Beautiful Handicrafts of Tohoku, Japan" features the textiles, pottery, lacquerware, wood crafts, embroidery, basket weaving, candle-making and other craft traditions from the northeast portion of Honshu Island, which is still recovering from the calamity.

The exhibit has already traveled to Hungary, China, Vietnam, and Thailand, and will travel to South Korea after its Metro Manila run.

The exhibit, held by Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) in partnership with Ayala Museum and with support from JT International (Philippines) Inc., is part of JFM’s lineup of activities celebrating July as Philippines-Japan Friendship Month.

A one-day lecture and hands-on workshop on a traditional craft common to both Tohoku and the Philippines will also be held in July. The details of these activities will be released soon.  — BM, GMA News
