WATCH: Murals taking shape in Bonifacio Global City ‘create sense of community’

An ongoing mural festival at the Bonifacio Global City is turning the commercial hub even more colorful and, artists hope, into more of a community.

The One Festival is a week-long mural creation project that involves several local and international artists creating outdoor art throughout BGC.

"What we found is that now that we're here, everyone wants to get involved," said festival director Kayo Cosio in a report by Katrina Son on "State of The Nation" on Wednesday.

About 12 murals are currently going up all over BGC, drawing crowds.

"When you add public art to different environments in cities, you create a sense of community that did not exist before," said American artist Beau Basse.

The largest mural being created is an image of a horizontally drawn astronaut, meant to convey the impact technology has made on the world.

The beauty of murals, said pop culture expert Professor Jim Naval, is that people do not have to go to museums or art galleries to see and appreciate art; they can enjoy it during their daily routine to and from work or school. "Ang mga pintura ay mga naipong karanasan ng tao. Expression ng mga naipong karanasan na inilalagay mo sa canvas, sa musika, sa sayaw. Outlet ito ng lahat na mga indibidwal," he added.
