(Updated 3:21 p.m., June 1, 2015) Brillante Mendoza's recent work "Taklub" is set to premiere in the Philippines at the 20th French Film Festival after receiving a special mention from the Ecumenical Jury at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

"Taklub" will be screened at the red carpet opening night of the film festival on June 3 at Greenbelt 3 in Makati City.

The film, which was shown under Cannes' Un Certain Regard category, stars Nora Aunor and tells the story of three survivors of Typhoon Yolanda. According to a press release from the office of Senator Loren Legarda, who is the principal advocate of the film, the festival commended the film "for the sensitive portrayal of individuals and communities working for life in the midst of suffering and death in the shadows of natural catastrophes in the Philippines."

Meanwhile, the opening French film, "La Famille Bélier (The Bélier Family)", focuses on a provincial deaf-mute family that must deal with the desire of their daughter to study music in Paris.

The French Film Festival will feature at least 10 more films to be screened from June 3-9 at the Greenbelt 3 cinemas and Bonifacio High Street cinemas in Taguig City.

"Reaching the 20th edition of the French Film Festival shows that Filipinos are genuinely curious to know more about French language, culture and society. Filipinos want to learn more about the French and vice versa, and what better way to facilitate this than through cinema," French Ambassador Gilles Garachon said in a statement.

Tickets for each screening are priced at P100, which are available at the box office or through www.sureseats.com. The screening schedule is below:
