Starting Saturday, 24 musically inclined children will benefit from a workshop that seeks to revive interest in the classic guitar.
Cebu's Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office initiated the "Gitara Cebuana" workshop for children from various parts of the province.
The "Gitara Cebuana" is working with the Cebu Guitar Foundation to revive youths' interest in the guitar, and to enhance their talent in playing it.
Under the program, the 24 children will attend a session every Saturday for six months starting June 6.
However, the "Gitara Cebuana" workshop will be formally launched on June 20 and 21 at the Legislative Building of the Capitol Compound.
CGF members and music enthusiasts of the provincial government will train them.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, vice chairperson of the Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children, noted PCWC has been conducting guitar duet competitions for the last three years.
“We are trying to perfect the craft and what they have learned by introducing professional mentors… hoping that these trained children will eventually become mentors in their own respective towns,” she said.

Magpale also said they are working to form a guitar ensemble with these 24 children, who will perform at festivals and entertain foreign guests.
Meanwhile, PCWC talents are to perform a solo guitar, duet and an ensemble piece at the “Halad sa Kabataan” and at the province's anniversary in August. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
