Saxophonist does Bach beatbox in old flour mill

A Michigan man who has created his own way of beatboxing with a saxophone, used the unique acoustics of an old flour mill on August 24 to play his own version of a Bach piece.

Derek Brown, now based in Chicago, posted a video online on August 26, showing him playing Suite One of Bach's Cello Suites in the disused building in Hillsdale, Michigan.

The building appealed to him because of its natural acoustics, Brown said.

The video shows Brown playing the song within the confines of the dilapidated building, with puddles on the floor.

Halfway through he switches to his own interpretation of the piece, using his so called "BEATBoX SAX" technique.

The sound is created by using slap-tonguing and double-tonguing techniques which bring a more percussive sound to the music, Brown said.

The 32-year-old is a freelance saxophonist who also teaches privately and coaches children after school.

He regularly posts tutorials online teaching people how to create his trademark sounds.

Since being posted online the video has been watched more than 170,000 times.  — Reuters
