Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago on Tuesday received an award from National Bookstore for the success of her bestseller "Stupid is Forevermore."
The book—the sequel to last year's "Stupid Is Forever"—is the bookstore's top seller for the third month in a row this month.
The senator said that she was "very, very happy," and took the opportunity to thank her fans for their support.
Battle with cancer
Before meeting her fans, the senator shared her insights on lung cancer, which she was diagnosed with in July 2014.
Santiago said that with the help of her faith, she was able to conquer cancer in about 6 months.
"Cancer is no longer what it was before," she said. "Cancer is no longer terminal."
"We can conquer cancer...as long as you have the money," she quipped.
Santiago also thanked her supporters for the thousands of cards she received during her recovery.
Miriam for 2016
Santiago announced her intention to run for president in 2016 in a press conference following the meet and greet event.
"I will run because I've already gotten over my bout of cancer and there's nothing left to do," she said, adding that she would like to continue her government service.
Before she met with her fans, the senator had said, "If I become president sometime in the very near future, this country will be much better than it was before."
"We will try and make this country better, simply by trusting in the Lord... trusting that you yourself will lead to God's great heaven," she finished. — BM, GMA News
