Historian Benedict Anderson dies

Historian and political scientist Benedict Anderson died in Malang, Indonesia on Sunday. He was 79.

According to ABC News, Indonesian media reported that Anderson died in his sleep.

Anderson, who was born in China and educated at Cambridge University and Cornell University (where he later taught), was an authority on Southeast Asian political culture and history, particularly those of Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

His ideas on nationalism were encapsulated in his best-known work, "Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism" (1983). — BM, GMA News
