Catholics across the PHL observe Good Friday
Devout Catholics across the nation are observing Good Friday, the day Jesus Christ died on the cross in Calvary.
The "good" in Good Friday is more synonymous with "holy" or "pious." Some theologians also argue that it is derived from "God's Friday." Etymology aside, the day is memorializes the suffering of Jesus Christ on the cross and his death in Calvary. In the Philippines, Christ's suffering is reenacted in the Senakulo or Passion Play.

The Senakulo is an often bloody affair, attracting the attention of outsiders. On the streets, some devotees also engage in self-flagellation or "penitensya" despite health warnings from authorities.
The Department of Health issued a new advisory on Thursday, reminding actors who will be crucified to get anti-tetanus shots.
Across the country, devotees continue to engage in the Good Friday traditions.
