Michael Cinco uses banig, solihiya patterns in Paris Fashion Week debut
For the first time in history, a Filipino designer presented his collection at the celebrated Paris Fasion Week.
Dubai-based fashion designer Michael Cinco presented his 30-piece Fall 2016 collection in the collaborative show “Couturissimo” on July 3 at the Tuileries Garden during the first day of “Paris: Haute Couture.” The collection included of couture and ready-to-wear pieces.
His show was presented by the Asian Couture Federation, of which he is a member.
Cinco, who also designed Marian Rivera's wedding gown, said that he is honored to have been chosen to represent the federation.
"Paris is the center of fashion and it’s the ultimate dream of every designer to show there. It has been mine since I started my career,” Cinco said in an interview for Gulf News in May.
"I can’t believe that the federation chose me for their first ever show in Paris. This is such a big honor for me."
Among his standout pieces is a “couture barong-inspired and terno creation with ikat, banig and solihiya embroidery pattern made from micro beads.”
Paris Fashion Week has been known to present collections from haute-couture companies and global fashion brands, including Chanel and Christian Dior.
