Brillante Mendoza’s ‘Ma’ Rosa’ is the PHL’s official entry to Oscars 2017
Brillante Mendoza's "Ma' Rosa" has been chosen as the Philippines' official entry to the 89th Academy Awards.
The movie was one of nine shortlisted by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) to be the country's bet for the Oscars' best foreign language film category.
The other films considered were Joel Lamangan's "Felix Manalo", Jun Lana's "Anino sa Likod ng Buwan", Erik Matti's "Honor Thy Father", Lav Diaz's "Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis", Paul Soriano's "Dukot", Eduardo Roy Jr.'s "Pamilya Ordinaryo", Gil Portes' "Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli", and Roderick Cabrido's "Tuos."
The FAP special committee deliberated on the choice on Wednesday.
"Ma' Rosa" led to a Best Actress win for Jaclyn Jose at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.
