Solenn Heussaff stands up for women empowerment through art

She’s more than an actress...and a pretty face...

Solenn Heussaff fights for girl power. Her weapon? Art.

The Kapuso star on Thursday revealed one of her prized masterpieces at the launching of Artgap 2016 Painting Exhibit at GMA Network Center in Quezon City.

Her painting called "Stand," mostly in black and white,  features a woman standing while pulling up her shirt, revealing her breasts.

Solenn said she wanted to portray women empowerment in her painting.

"They should just stand by what they believe in and they shouldn't be ashamed for it. Kaya up 'yung shirt niya, she's still standing strong. Even if you bare her from all her dignity, she's still be there to face [anything],” Solenn said.

“Women are warriors nowadays. They don't have to be the support system of their families. 'Yun, parang it's more on an empowerment for me,” she added.

Solenn said her work of art is borne out of pure imagination.

"Walang model. Purely imagination talaga. It's a mix of emotions na when I hear my friends open up to me when they hear the news,” she said.

The actress, however, said having women as subjects does not mean she hates men.

"I love men, [kaso] parang hindi magandang mag-paint ng men,” she said. "Mas sensual 'yung babae."

Apart from this, Solenn said she is planning to have up to 20 paintings next year --- this time, featuring street children.

"'Yung painting, medyo matagal [pa] kasi maraming details. But I'm planning to have 20 next year,” she said.

Solenn’s painting, along with many other artworks, is up for sale. Proceeds will be donated to the GMA Kapuso Foundation. — VVP, GMA News
