'Tooterte' graces Davao's Torotot Festival
President Rodrigo Duterte is known to make headlines for the incendiary statements he makes, but in Davao's Torotot Festival, his image has inspired a different kind of sounding off.
One of the participants in the Torotot Making Contest for the festival, Rey John Guadamor, has been working for three days on his party horn adorned with a Duterte figure.
Guadamor's version of Duterte has six arms and he explained that the president is holding Davao trademarks.
"Agila, at saka iyong Waling-Waling, at saka durian. D'on sa kabila 'yong mga instrumento ng Davao," Guadamor said in an interview with Unang Balita Friday.
Fireworks have been banned in Davao since 2002 and in place of lighting firecrackers, Davaeno's have grown accustomed to welcoming the new year with party horns at the Torotot Festival.
People in violation of the ban may face one to six months in jail and a fine of P1,000 to P5,000. — TJD, GMA News
