Rachelle Ann Go visits ‘Hamilton’ Broadway stage ahead of West End run

2017 will be a busy year for theater star Rachelle Ann Go as she will be playing back-to-back roles in London's West End.

Go will be "Miss Saigon by day, Hamilton by night," as she put it in an Instagram post, with the photo showing her on the "Hamilton" stage on Broadway.

The actress was recently cast in the highly anticipated West End run of the smash hit musical. She will play Eliza Schuyler, the wife of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, whose life is narrated throughout the play.

In an exclusive report by Lhar Santiago on 24 Oras, Go said she will be returning to the West End in March to reprise her role as Gigi in "Miss Saigon", which she debuted in 2014.

She will then take a few weeks off to return to the Philippines for a vacation, then fly back to London in December to start rehearsing for "Hamilton," which will open in the West End later this year.

"After Miss Saigon, I'm going back home first for a few weeks to spend time with family and to just chill. I think I need a break after Miss Saigon. And then I'm going to London on the 18th of December to start rehearsing for Hamilton naman," she said.

Despite the demanding schedule, Go said that she was excited to begin playing Eliza.

"Nakakatuwa and nakakaexite po dahil I've been praying for this role," she said.

She revealed that she auditioned for two roles, and that she did not expect much after auditioning. She was overwhelmed when she learned that she was chosen for the part.

"I actually auditioned for two roles. The final audition happened in December 14th at London. I really wanted to get the part of Eliza so I'm just so grateful," Go said.

"The moment I got the email from the company saying, 'You got the part of Eliza,' iyak na po ako ng iyak dahil hindi po talaga ako makapaniwala. God is so faithful," she added.

Go was not the only Pinay theater star to bag a role in "Hamilton" in the West End.

Christine Allado was chosen to play one of Eliza's sisters, Peggy. She will also play Maria Reynolds, Hamilton's lover, in the second act.

Go said she also looked forward to working with Allado.

"I am really grateful at excited dahil makakasama ko rin dito sa Hamilton ay isang Pinay, si Christine Allado and she's gonna play one of my sisters, Peggy," she said. — Jessica Bartolome/BM, GMA News
