Robb Stark brings Jesus to aliens in new Amazon series ‘Oasis’

Richard Madden, otherwise known as Robb Stark in “Game of Thrones,” will be evangelizing a remote alien planet in “Oasis,” a new science fiction series on Amazon.

Set in the future, “Oasis” is about a Christian pastor named Peter Leigh, who is summoned by a multinational company to a distant planet. Said planet is called Oasis, and just so happens to be humanity’s last hope for survival. The Earth, you see, isn’t doing so well, and we need a new place to call our home.

Among Leigh’s tasks is to teach the planet’s native inhabitants about Jesus.

The official description for “Oasis” reads:

“‘Oasis’ follows a chaplain who is sent into space to help establish a colony on a distant planet. What he ends up discovering not only puts his faith to the test, but life as we know it.”

“Oasis” is part of the new Amazon pilot season. The company wants to know which of its new shows viewers would like best to move forward in 2017. For this purpose, it has created a survey you can take on its website, and a video featuring clips of the available shows. Skip to the 1:05 mark for “Oasis.”

So far, “Oasis” seems to be faring well; as of writing, it has a score of 4.7 out of 5 stars based on more than 3,100 viewer ratings. At IMDb, it has a score of 8.5 out of 10.

“Oasis” is neck and neck with “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which has an Amazon score of 4.5/5 based on over 2,300 customer ratings, and an IMDb score of 8.4/10.

“Oasis” is based on Michel Faber's 2014 science fiction novel “The Book of Strange New Things.” We don’t know how much the TV series will deviate from its source material, whose main themes include love, faith, hope, and despair.

Previously called “Strange New Things,” the show was most probably renamed “Oasis” to prevent people from mistaking it for Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” — BM, GMA News
