Regional conference to discuss cultural, historical roots of ‘ASEAN Miracle’
The Philippine Historical Association will host an international conference in September that will look into the cultural and historic roots of the Southeast Asian region.
"The Malay World: Connecting the Past to the Present" will be held from September 14 to 16 at the Manila Hotel and in De La Salle University. It will be the fourth International Conference of the International Council for Historical and Cultural Cooperation-Southeast Asia (ICHCC-SEA).
According to the PHA in a statement, research papers—on Southeast Asian studies, archaeology, anthropology, cultural studies, education, humanities, international studies, literature, sociology, political science, and related areas—will be delivered at the conference, which "shall serve as an outlet for the latest historical studies on the Philippines and the region."
The conference will open at the Manila Hotel, where representatives from the Malaysian Historical Society, the Society of Indonesian Historians, and the PHA will speak at plenary sessions.
The ICHCC-SEA will move to De La Salle University for paper presentations on Day 2, while on the last day, historian Prof. Xiao Chua will lead a walking tour of the National Museum of Anthropology.
The public is invited to attend the conference. — BM, GMA News
