Lea Salonga’s daughter Nicole among the revolting children in ‘Matilda’
It will be the first time the award-winning ‘Matilda The Musical’ will be staged in the Philippines and already there is much to be excited about.
Apart from the three accomplished young actresses chosen to play the title role — Telesa Marie ‘Esang De Torres, Uma Naomi Martin, and Felicity Kyle Napuli — there’s yet another young cast member audiences will want to watch for: Nicole Chien aka Lea Salonga’s daughter.
For her first professional theater production, Nicole will play Alice, one of the eight classmates of Matilda aka the revolting children. She will alternate with another child actress, Ella Gonzales, who has earned a scholarship in Kids Act Philippines.
This might be Nicole's first professional theater gig, but she's no stranger to the stage. She has performed in school since she was five years old and has appeared on stage during Lea Salonga's concert, "Playlist".

Of course nobody could be prouder than Lea Salonga herself. The proud mother has posted the good news on her Instagram account and has even written about being a ‘stage mother’ in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, where she is a columnist.
"Rehearsals for her will start in a few days, which means that, at home, we’ve got her script highlighted and bound, the cast recording playing more often than before, so she can familiarize herself with the songs, and the friendly verbal reminder that for weeks, she’ll have to leave school and hop in the car to head to her almost-daily rehearsals.
In short, she’s now living the life of a professional musical-theater actor. The life that I now lead," Lea writes.
Can't imagine how exciting and nerve-wracking it might be in the Chien household. Congrats! — LA, GMA News
