John Legend makes history as first African American man to achieve EGOT status


John Legend made history this weekend.

The singer took home an Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday along with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for producing Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

With that win Legend, Webber and Rice achieved EGOT status.

Legend is the first African American man to earn the coveted status of winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

Legend currently has 10 Grammy’s, an Oscar for his song "Glory" and a Tony for his role as a co-producer for the production of "Jitney."

Chrissy Teigen celebrated her husband’s accomplishment on social media by posting a picture of him with Webber and Rice.

Legend is also nominated for outstanding actor in a limited series or movie, which will be announced during the live awards. The primetime awards will air on September 17.  — Reuters
