Maestro Ryan Cayabyab leads 2018 National Artist awardees


Maestro Ryan Cayabyab leads the seven National Artist awardees this year, the awarding ceremony of which will be led by President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday.

An advisory sent to Palace reporters on Tuesday afternoon stated that the awarding ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm in the Rizal Hall of the Malacañan Palace.

Prior to being feted as a National Artist, Cayabuab won the Gawad CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines) para sa Sining in 2004 and is also one of the CCP Centennial Honors for the Arts.

Cayabyab’s hit songs include "Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika," "Limang Dipang Tao," "Kailan," among others.

Aside from Cayabyab, others to be feted with the distinction of being a National Artist include: Francisco Mañosa for Architecture, Eric de Guia aka Kidlat Tahimik for Film, Ramon Muzones and Resil B. Mojares for Literature, Amelia Lapeña Bonifacio for Theater and Lauro “Larry” Alcala for Visual Arts.

 

 

Also to be awarded the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan award are Ambalang Ausalin, Estelita Bantilan and Yabing Masalon- Dulo.

Virgilio Almario, Chairman of the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts and National Artist for Literature, will deliver the opening remarks. — LA, GMA News
