Where can your P1,000 take you? To a cultural and historical immersion in Quiapo, a travel company says.

In Sandra Aguinaldo's report on GMA 24 Oras on Thursday, a tour offered by Meaningful Travels PH shows Quiapo in a different light, panning the focus to the rich culture of its Muslim community.

The trip takes tourists to the district's Golden Mosque where, as part of culture considerations, tourists must wear appropriate clothing. Women are required to cover their heads, and shoes must also be taken off.

The tour includes shopping opportunities and also lets food enthusiasts explore Mindanao cuisines, as lunch and snacks are included in the fee.

Among the meals served during Sandra Aguinaldo's tour were Aro-an Pishawawan (fish cooked in coconut milk) and Pindiyalokan (native chicken cooked with coconut and turmeric).

Pater, or rice topped with shredded chicken that comes with the all-time favorite Maranao spicy side dish "palapa," is a must-try.

The menu also offers Beef Rendang, a popular dish in Indonesia and Malaysia.

This Quiapo experience demonstrates the richness and variety of the Philippines' culture, and may create closer bonds among Filipinos.

"It's key for us to be able to understand more our Muslim brothers and sisters, kasi diba pare-pareho tayong Pilipino," said tourist Me-An Clemente. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
