Women join hands in protest against misogyny on Int'l Women's Day

Hundreds of women from different sectors united and flocked to the La Madre Filipina Statue at Rizal Park during International Women's Day on Friday to call for an end to abuses and discrimination experienced by women in the country.

Women's rights advocates, clad in purple and white with flower crowns on their heads and sashes over their torsos, chanted "Tama na ang kabastusan! Sulong kababaihan! Tama na ang abuso! Sulong kababaihan!"

According to Marielle Rugas, convener of Girls for Peace, over 100 organizations and schools such as Akbayan Women and Gabriela, as well as EveryWoman, One Billion Rising, Miriam College, among others, joined together to both protest for equal rights and at the same time celebrate International Women's Day.

A series of cultural performances from the different organizations captured the audience's attention, all showcasing women empowerment through dance, song, or play.
