Baguio paper artist shines a light on PHL's critically-endangered species

An artist from Baguio, who spent hours cutting intricately-detailed images of critically-endangered animals by hand, wants to remind the public about environmental issues that may soon render them extinct.

Among animals that Shaphir Aleph Lizarondo turned into breathtaking masterpieces are the Philippine eagle, the Hawksbill sea turtle, the Sulu hornbill, the Philippine pangolin and more.

According to Lizarondo, each paper sculpture took 10 to 15 hours to make.

But, through the intricate art of paper-cutting, the artist wants the world to take a closer look at important issues such as climate change.

"Maganda siyang way para maka-raise ako ng awareness regarding climate change, regarding extinction of animals. Ginamit ko siya as medium para makapag-relay ako ng information," Lizarondo said in an interview on GMA News TV's "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho."
