Lav Diaz wins Best Director in Venice film fest


Filipino director Lav Diaz won as Best Director in the Venice International Film Festival Orizzonti section.

Diaz won for his film “Lahi, Hayop (Genus, Pan).”

Film Development Council of the Philippines chairman and CEO Liza Dino-Seguerra congratulated Diaz and the whole team behind the film.

“BREAKING: Lav Diaz wins Best Director at the La Biennale di Venezia (Venice International Film Festival), one of the top 3 film festival in the world for his film Lahi, Hayop (GENUS PAN). This epic win coincides with the celebration of the 101st Anniversary of Philippine Cinema. Congratulations to the whole team! Mabuhay ang Pelikulang Pilipino!” she wrote on Facebook.

Diaz's film "Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left)" also won the Golden Lion top prize at the Venice film fest back in 2016. —KG, GMA News
