Erik Matti to direct Philippine episode of HBO Asia horror anthology series 'Folklore'


Erik Matti will be directing the Philippine episode of the HBO Asia's original horror anthology series titled "Folklore," WarnerMedia announced on Tuesday.

According to a press statement, Folklore season 2 is going to be a seven-part hour-long series that will take place in seven Asian countries, namely Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Taiwan.

WarnerMedia said each episode will be directed by a local director from each country, with Direk Erik will be bringing the Pinoy brand into the spotlight. 

This will be the first time the Philippines is going to be featured in the horror anthology.

The statement said Direk Erik is among the select directors "who will ramp up the fear factor as Folklore examines the human condition when exposed to supernatural powers in a mind-bending race against oneself, each story bringing a different take and perspective."

Other Asian directors who bringing in their country's horror cultures into the show's second season include Thailand's Sittisiri Mongkolsiri, Taiwan's Shih-Han Liao, Billy Christian from Indonesia, Nicole Midori Woodford from Singapore, and Bradley Liew from Malaysia. Pop singer-songwriter, Seiko Matsuda, will be making her directorial debut in the episode from Japan.

The statement said the principal photography for the series will start early next year.

"Folklore Season 2" promises to bring a "different kind of horror based on local superstitions and myths from six different countries in Asia, the statement said.

Direk Erik is the man behind Filipino horror masterpieces including "Seklusyon," "Kuwaresma," "Vesuvius," and the "Aswang Chronicles."
