Toned-down Chinese New Year celebration seen in Binondo

Toned-down celebrations in observance of the Chinese New Year have been seen in Binondo, Manila, and Pasay City.

According to Tina Panganiban-Perez’s “24 Oras” report Friday, the usual parade, dragon and lion dances, and other shows were not held in Binondo.

If in previous years the streets were closed, this time these were left open to the public due to the absence of crowds.

Ambulant vendors still sold their wares, and the most saleable items were lucky charms and tikoy.

Meanwhile, a fireworks display was held at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

The activity was held in accordance with the rules of the Inter-Agency Task Force, which prohibits mass gatherings. – RC, GMA News
