Here are just five incredible things you need to know about the openly-queer beauty queen who made history at the pageant held Thursday, September 30 in Bohol.

1. She's the first openly-queer candidate to win the title

 

 

Beatrice Luigi Gomez is the first openly-queer beauty queen to be crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2021.

The gorgeous representative from Cebu City proudly shared information about her relationship with girlfriend, Kate Jagdon, during the livestreamed Interview Challenge portion of the pageant.

2. She's a in the navy

 

 

Apart from being a beauty queen, Beatrice also serves the country as a navy reservist.

She's also a former volleyball player and community development worker who does MMA, boxing and scuba-diving.

3. She is not new to the pageant scene

 

 

Beatrice won the Binibining Cebu pageant in 2020. Beatrice also joined the Miss Mandaue pageant in 2015 and placed second runner-up.

4. She and her girlfriend, Kate Jagdon, have been together for six years

 

 

During her Interview challenge, Beatrice proudly talked about her girlfriend Kate who she has been in a relationship with since 2015.

In a sweet birthday greeting last January, Beatrice called Kate her "happy pill."

5. She won more than just a crown

 

 

Early on in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant, Beatrice won Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown. She also took home the special awards Miss Luxxe Immunplus Game Changer and Miss Cream Silk.

Beatrice also considers her win as a win for the LGBTQIA+ community.

In a short Q&A before being crowned, she said the country was totally ready to send a member of the LGBTQIA+ community to the international Miss U pageant.

“I honestly believe that our country has definitely been a long way in battling our fight for equality especially for the LGBTQIA+ community. Our country has been very supportive and I definitely think we are definitely ready to send someone, an LGBTQIA+ member to the Universe," she said.
