Athletics Stadium in New Clark City nominated anew in World Architecture Festival

The Athletics Stadium in the New Clark City (NCC) has been nominated anew in the World Architecture Festival (WAF).

In a statement, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) said the accredited sports stadium is vying for the engineering prize of the prestigious festival.

The festival earlier included the sports stadium in the shortlist of Sport Completed Buildings last July.

BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Vince Dizon commended MTD Philippines, BCDA’s development partner in New Clark City, and architectural consultant Budji+Royal Architecture+Design for delivering the world-class sports facility.

“For the NCC Athletics Stadium to be recognized at such a high level not only for its architectural brilliance, but also for its structural quality, is a nod towards the thousands of engineers, designers and workers who completed this facility within a short period of time,” Dizon said.

The NCC Athletics Stadium is the first major sports hub constructed by the government since the completion of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in 1934, according to the BCDA.

The stadium served as a venue for the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019 with a 20,000 seating capacity, a nine-lane 400 meter track and field, and another four-lane warm-up track.

It was also earlier nominated as one of the top 10 best stadiums in the world at the annual Stadium of the Year Awards.

The WAF is set to take place at the FIL Exhibition Center in Lisbon, Portugal on December 1 to 3. — LA, GMA News
