Cindy Obeñita: 5 things you need to know about the Miss Intercontinental 2021 winner

Cinderella Obeñita is back in the Philippines after making history as the second Filipina to win Miss Intercontinental.

Fresh from Egypt, the 25-year-old stunner from Cagayan de Oro City virtually sat down GMA-7's "Unang Hirit" to thank everybody who supported her.

"Talagang it’s like a dream that really came true so, I'm just so thankful to everyone for their support, their commitment, their love, so talaga namang this is all for you," she said.

"Inaalay ko yung laban ko for the Philippines and everyone who have supported me."

Cinderella also played games and shared fun facts about herself, so here are just five things you need to know about our newly-crowned Miss Intercontinental 2021.

1. She graduated Magna Cum Laude

She's got the beauty, she's got the brains, and now she even has the crown!

Cinderella graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Liceo de Cagayan in 2017 with a degree in Mass Communication.

“Even up until now, I got the support of my alma matter. [I'm] so so thankful for them," she said.

2. She fights for cervical cancer awareness

When asked about her plans as Miss Intercontinental 2021, Cinderella said she hopes to bring her advocacy on cervical cancer awareness and prevention "to the intercontinental stage."

"We will work with the different national directors of the continents so that we will be able to engage more women in the conversation of health [and] well-being.

3. She helped OFWs amid the pandemic

Apart from being a model beauty queen, Cinderella works as a tourism officer in Misamis Oriental.

If you go to her Instagram, she has a photo from the day she helped assist returning OFWs affected by the spread of COVID-19 around the world.

"I think that was during the early part of the pandemic, so we gave thenm PPEs and assisted them with their hotels [and] accomodation," Cindy said.

4. She's a huge 'Legal Wives' fan

During her UH interview, Cinderella was asked to give the names of Kapuso stars she would cast in her own version of "Cinderella."

As a self-confessed fan of GMA-7's "Legal Wives," the beauty queen said she would love Alice Dixson to play her fairy godmother while Bianca Umali and Andrea Torres would be her step-sisters. She would also choose Cherrie Gil to play her evil step mom.

But what about Prince Charming? "Hindi pwede yung boyfriend ko kasi hindi siya artista, so siguro si Xian Lim!" she said.

5. She's a queen named after a princess

"Siguro, 'yung mom ko named me after a princess for a reason," said Cinderella.

"And I can really say na yung mga nangyari ngayon is really because of the hard work and the perseverance and the efforts of not just me and my family, but even the people [and] the mentors around me, so I am surrounded by my real life grandmother

"So I'm so, so grateful and thankful for all of them, because they made this Cinderella story into a reality."

Cinderella Obeñita, who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental in July, won the global Miss Intercontinental pageant held in Egypt last month.

She is the second Filipino woman to win the title after Karen Gallman in 2019.
