Lea Salonga to perform as guest for the Manila stop of The Tabernacle Choir World Tour

Lea Salonga to perform as guest for the Manila stop of ‘The Tabernacle Choir’ World Tour

Lea Salonga is set to perform as a guest artist for the Philippine leg of The Tabernacle Choir.

In a press conference held in Conrad Hotel in Pasay City on Monday, the critically acclaimed Filipina theater icon said it was an easy decision to say yes to join The Tabernacle Choir for a second time, given the great experience she had on her first time joining the choir.

“When the Tabernacle Choir sent the invitation to join them as part of their world tour when they came to the Philippines, it was an invitation that we said yes to pretty immediately,” Lea told members of the press.

“I don’t know if many artists have had the opportunity to perform more than once with the choir, so this is a big bonus,” she added. “To be able to do it again and to be able to do it in my home country is very special.”

Lea first performed with the choir in December 2022 for the “Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra” at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“It was memorable not only from a musical standpoint, but I just remembered feeling, ‘this is something I will never, ever forget’,” Lea said.

In Manila, the free concert will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on February 27 and 28, 8 p.m.

Along with Lea, Ysabelle Cuevas, another Filipina singer-songwriter, will also join the choir in their performances.

Meanwhile, “Unang Hirit” broadcaster Suzie Entrata-Abrera and her husband Paolo Abrera will serve as narrators during the performances.

Led by renowned composer and director Mack Wilberg, The Tabernacle Choir is an Emmy and Grammy award-winning choir known worldwide for its one-of-a-kind signature sound created by 420 volunteer voices.
