International Women's Day: Janeena Chan, Clara Benin, Zarah Juan on what they love about being a woman
"Babae ka, hindi babae lang.”
Today's modern-day Filipinas are far from the Maria Clara prototype we have known. They are bold, brave, and taking up space, bigger space, in their chosen paths.
In celebration of International Women's Day, GMA Integrated News talked to some of today's remarkable Filipinas during the recently held Rustan's GRLPWR event about what they love most about being a woman.
For Sparkle artist and host Janeena Chan, the best thing about womanhood is "having fun with many little things."
"Because we get to really express ourselves in so many different ways," she said.
"And I think just being able to give birth also," she added. "I witnessed that with my sister, she gave birth last year, and it's just so amazing, the miracle of life."
For Clara Benin, the indie darling of the Philippines, her favorite thing about being a woman in the music industry is using her voice for "empowerment and self-expression."
"Growing up, I didn't have as many female artists to look up to, so it's truly inspiring to witness more women being spotlighted in the arts," she said.
"And I hope our visibility empowers and inspires young girls pursuing their artistic passions," she added.
Meanwhile, for seasoned accessory designer Zarah Juan, being a renowned artist puts her in an excellent position to advocate for gender equality in the arts.
"Advocating for gender equality in the arts is essential because limiting talent to only men restricts the potential for creativity and innovation," she said.
"When both men and women have equal opportunities to thrive in the arts, society as a whole flourishes," she added.
Happy International Women's Day! How about we celebrate at women-led restaurants?
