'Dear Evan Hansen' extends Manila run due to overwhelming demand
Tony Award-winning musical "Dear Evan Hansen" is extending its stay in Manila, giving more Filipino audiences the chance to experience the show that has moved hearts around the world.
Originally scheduled to run until late September, the Manila season will now run from September 4 to October 5 at The Theatre at Solaire, Parañaque City.
The final extension follows overwhelming demand and sold-out pre-sale shows, making it one of the most anticipated international theater productions in the country.
Presented by GMG Productions, the Manila staging features the UK touring production of the show, co-produced by Nottingham Playhouse and the Ambassador Theatre Group. The tour has been earning acclaim across Europe and Asia for its emotionally charged storytelling and fresh take on the Broadway original.
With a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul ("La La Land," "The Greatest Showman") and a book by Steven Levenson, the musical dives deep into the emotional world of Evan Hansen, a high school student struggling with anxiety, isolation, and the longing to be seen.
What begins as a small lie spirals into a nationwide phenomenon, forcing Evan to confront the painful gap between who he is and who he pretends to be.
In 2024, a Singapore-based production of "Dear Evan Hansen" saw Filipino talents take the spotlight: Gian Magdangal as Larry Murphy and Angelo Martinez in the title role.
Their performances added depth and cultural resonance, underscoring how universal the show's themes are, especially for Southeast Asian audiences.
Tickets for the Manila run are on sale, with price range from P1,904 to P6,877 via TicketWorld.
