Ricky Lee tells Kyline Alcantara after reading at his book launch: 'You were wonderful!'

Kyline Alcantara is ecstatic at being among the artists chosen to read a piece by Ricky Lee at the Manila International Book Festival (MIBF) last week.

The Kapuso star shared her thoughts and moments from the event in an Instagram post, thanking the National Artist for his inspiring work.

“Bilang isang mambabasa, napakalaking inspirasyon po para sa akin ang inyong mga akda na hindi lamang nagkukuwento kundi sumasalamin sa ating lipunan at sa tunay na damdamin ng tao,” Kyline said. “Bawat pahina ay may bigat at ganda, dala ng inyong galing at pagmamahal sa sining.”

[As a reader, your work has served as an inspiration to me. They don't only tell stories but reflect society and the realities of the people. Each page holds beauty and gravitas, brought about by your talent and love for the art.]

“Isa po kayong huwaran na patuloy kong titingalain at paghuhugutan ng inspirasyon,” Kyline added.

[You are an example I will continue to look up to and find inspiration in.]

In the comment section, the ever-gracious Lee thanked Kyline and said, "You were wonderful!"

Among the photos Kyline included in her carousel was of Lee's autograph to her, which read: "We may not have worked together yet but I've always admired your work. Thank you."

Kyline read an expert of a piece on the late Jaclyn Jose, taken from one of Lee’s latest books, “Agaw-Tingin,” a collection of the writer’s non-fiction works from 1976 to 2009.

The other artists who read excerpts were Michael V., Luis Alandy, Chai Fonacier, Agot Isidro, Jolina Magdangal, Judy Ann Santos, Meryll Soriano, and Jericho Rosales.

Ricky Lee is the writer of the films “Cain at Abel,” and “Himala,” the screenwriter of MMFF 2024 Best Picture "Green Bones" with Anj Atienza, as well as the author of the books “Para Kay B,” “Kulang na Silya at Iba Pang Kwentong Buhay,” the scriptwriting manual “Trip to Quiapo,” and many more.

Meanwhile, Kyline stars in “Beauty Empire” with Barbie Forteza.
