Museum and Galleries Month: Enjoy exhibits, activities at these museums in Metro Manila this October
October is Museum and Galleries Month.
Looking for something fun and worthwhile to do this month? Several museums across Metro Manila have exciting events and exhibits lined up just for you.
From free admission days to concerts and once-in-a-lifetime art exhibitions, these museums offer the perfect opportunity for you to spend a day immersed in creativity and culture.
1. University of Santo Tomas Museum
The University of Santo Tomas Museum in its España campus is considered the oldest existing museum in the Philippines.
The museum is home to various collections such as ethnographic and natural history artifacts, Philippine religious images and paintings, among others.
In celebration of Museum and Galleries Month, the museum will offer free admission to the public for the whole month of October.
On ordinary days, admission for non-UST students is priced at P30, while local visitor tickets are priced at P50.
2. National Museum of the Philippines
The National Museum of the Philippines is hosting a variety of weekly activities in celebration of Museum and Galleries Month, held across its regional component museums nationwide.
Among the activities that they will host is the “Objects of the Past and Vessels of the Future” exhibit at the National Museum of Anthropology on October 7.
Entrance to the museum is free, and the exhibit will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
3. Ayala Museum
Ayala Museum in Makati has so many things to offer this month, from art exhibitions and film screenings to lectures by public historian Prof. Ambeth Ocampo, art collector Veronica Duran, and curator Ditas Samson.
The highlight of this month’s event is the final showing of Juan Luna’s long-lost masterpiece "Hymen, Oh Hyménée!” which is considered the holy grail of Philippine art.
The exhibit will run from October 7 to 16.
Aside from an art exhibit, visitors can also enjoy a fun lecture on Luna with renowned Filipino historian Ambeth Ocampo on October 11, as well as a film screening of the Oscar-shortlisted film “Song of the Fireflies.”
Admission to Ayala Museum starts at P200 for local visitors.
4. Metropolitan Museum of Manila
Want a chill and cozy music session? The Metropolitan Museum of Manila in Bonifacio Global City has something in store for you!
In celebration of the Museum and Galleries Month, the M offers an afternoon of live music at the M Concert Hour.
The concert will feature saxophonist Roxy Modesto and guitarist Tim Cada on October 18 from 4 to 5 p.m.
Tickets are free and you can purchase it online or walk-in.
5. The National Library of the Philippines
The National Library of the Philippines (NLP), home to over 200,000 books and titles, will offer a free guided tour with renowned historian Xiao Chua on October 30 at 2:30 p.m. at the NLP Building.
Guests will also have the opportunity to discover the stories behind the national cultural heritage at the NLP Permanent Gallery.
The guided tour is limited to the first 30 guests who will register on their website.
