CCP’s 2024 Thirteen Artists Awards exhibit opens at National Museum

CCP’s 2024 Thirteen Artists Awards exhibit opens at National Museum

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) honored the recipients of the 2024 Thirteen Artists Awards (TAA) with a special exhibit at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila.

The TAA recognizes artists whose work has made a significant impact on the country’s artistic and cultural scenes. The artists were also honored for their unique artistic practice that reflects on and responds to modern-day realities.

They have a variety of media and methods, ranging from video, sculpture, paintings, installations, and more. Their works are also statements on the current social landscapes in the country.

"Out of 108 nominations, and through a meticulous process, 13 artists were chosen to carry the legacy forward. These artists will redefine and provoke the social order, while reflecting their truths and realities," CCP President Kaye C. Tinga said.

For exhibit curator Mervy C. Pueblo, the TAA awardees “reveal a Philippine art that is awake, attentive, and insistently present” and that their pieces “[reflect] a generation that listens to the world with curiosity, care, and imagination.”

Established in 1970, the TAA began as a curatorial project of the CCP Museum under the direction of Roberto Chabet. It focused on works of artists who “restructure, restrengthen, and renew artmaking and art thinking… that lend viability to Philippine art.”

The TAA exhibit opened to the public on October 7 and will run until January 12, 2026, at the Sandiganbayan Reception Hall, National Museum of Fine Arts.
