Kokoy de Santos to make theater debut in 'Ateng,' a play produced by Boy Abunda
Kokoy de Santos is starring in the Palanca Award-winning one-act play "Ateng" written by Vince De Jesus, which will be produced by Boy Abunda this November.
On Wednesday's "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the King of Talk said that the play is directed by Rem Zamora and also stars Dyas Adarlo, Jason Barcial, IO Balanon, Vince De Jesus, and Thou Reyes.
For Tito Boy, the production marks a return to his theater roots, something he described as a personal act of gratitude toward where he began.
"Matagal naming pinag-usapan po ito ni Vince. Bago pa ho nag-pandemya pero finally, natuloy po," he said. "Marami ang nakakaalam that I started in the theater and I'm proud to have started at the Metropolitan Theater, so this is my way of paying back, ika nga."
Kokoy, who is making his stage debut through "Ateng," said Tito Boy inspired him to take the leap into theater.
"Actually, si Tito Boy po talaga ang puno't dulo kung bakit nag-dive na ako dito sa panibagong journey ng pag-arte ko," Kokoy said. "Matagal ko nang gustong gawin ang teatro. Pinagkatiwala po sa 'kin ni Tito Boy. Nakikita niya na kaya ko, so nagtiwala na lang din ako sa sarili ko."
Ateng opens Friday, November 14, with weekend performances until December 7 at Rampa Drag Club in Quezon City.
