Christmas lanterns rich in meaning shine at 'Ligligan Parul' in Pampanga
Colorful giant lanterns took centerstage at the "Ligligan Parul" or Giant Lantern Festival this year in San Fernando City, Pampanga, also known as the Christmas capital of the Philippines.
According to Vonne Aquino's report on "24 Oras" Tuesday, the lanterns were more than just a visual spectacle, as these carried rich and meaningful messages inspiring hope and joy this Christmas season.
Aside from the giant lanterns, the city's Christmas village also delighted Kapampangans with circus performers, mascots, and fire dancers.
No doubt that Pampanga is known for its rich cultural heritage and culinary traditions.
Sparkle star Cheska Fausto visited Angeles City to learn firsthand how to make authentic Kapampangan sisig from chef and restaurateur Howard Dizon.
Historian Lucio Sison of the Kuliat Foundation also taught Cheska how traditional Kapampangan hot chocolate, called sukulating batirol, is made. The delicious concoction includes peanuts and is served with pinipig.
Aquino's report also highlighted putong babi, a delicious treat that reflects Kapampangans' resourcefulness. This snack is made from leftover pandesal and mixed with mashed sweet potato and egg before being fried.
Ligang Pasku, on the other hand, is a type of soup dish that incorporates leftovers from Noche Buena so these would not go to waste.
