'Republika ng Pipolipinas' is PH's official entry to Dhaka International Film Festival 2026
“Republika ng Pipolipinas” has been selected as the official Philippine entry to the 24th Dhaka International Film Festival 2026, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) announced on Facebook.
The film was selected as part of the Asian Competition section. It will be screened from January 10 to 18 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Director-writer Renei Dimla and lead actress Geraldine Villamil will be present at the event.
“Republika ng Pipolipinas” was an official entry to Cinemalaya 2025. The film is a mockumentary, and follows Cora Vitug, a disillusioned farmer. She protests against the government, which plans to take her land and home, by abandoning her Filipino citizenship and building her own nation called Republika ng Pipolipinas.
A new government project speeds up Cora’s displacement, and she and her people aim to expose the corruption going on.
It won the NETPAC Jury Prize at Cinemalaya 2025.
