'Sisa' wins Best Screenplay at Fantasporto 2026
"Sisa" won the Best Screenplay Award at the 46th Festival Internacional de Cinema do Porto, or Fantasporto International Film Festival.
Director Jun Robles Lana confirmed the news in an Instagram post.
"It's an honor for our team to see this story recognized on an international stage, but the most meaningful part of the journey is bringing this win back home," he said.
Direk Jun said "Sisa" is still in cinemas this week and he is hoping that more Filipinos catch it on the big screen.
"If you love stories that stick with you, please give 'Sisa' a chance. Let's show the world that our stories have a home in our own theaters," Direk Jun said.
"See you at the movies!"
Fantasporto International Film Festival is the biggest film festival in Portugal and one of the 25 leading festivals in the world.
"Sisa" is Hilda Koronel's comeback film. It is a spy thriller set in the Philippine-American War of 1902.
Contrary to popular belief, her titular character in the film is not the same Sisa from "Noli Me Tangere" by Jose Rizal.
"She's a spy. So hindi 'to—they have a misconception na si Sisa 'to ni Rizal. It's not. Because it's in 1902. This is the Philippine-American War already," Hilda said.
She added that her character only pretends to be unwell.
"Nagloloko-lokohan lang siya," she said.
