'Dogshow Divas' hosts Macoy Dubs, Baus Rufo speak out vs 'queerbaiting'

"Dogshow Divas" hosts Macoy Dubs and Baus Rufo spoke out against content creators they described as "queerbaiting."

According to Oxford English Dictionary, queerbaiting is "the practice of trying to appeal to and capitalize on LGBTQ+ audiences or customers in a deceptive or superficial manner."

In their March 18 episode titled "Mga Nanay Niyong Galit," Macoy and Baus did not name names but addressed straight content creators who, according to them, portray queer behavior in their content.

"'Yung mga straight na nagbabakla-baklaan content, tigil n'yo 'yan," Macoy said. "Queerbaiting, itigil n'yo 'yan ah."

Baus said some straight content creators believe that pandering to queer people will make them famous.

"Nakakaloka 'yang queerbaiting kasi like we spent a good chunk of our lives trying to seek approval na ayaw ibigay sa 'tin," Baus said.

"Tapos ngayon, 'oh my god, we wanna pander to the gays.' You have to earn it naman. We're not saying we're not gonna give it to you, pero allyship muna beh bago clout," he added.

"Dogshow Divas" is a podcast where Baus and Macoy discuss a variety of topics like Filipino culture, work, showbiz, fashion, and more.

Baus is a comedian and host. He is a co-founder of the production company Bekenemen, which holds drag watch parties.

Macoy, meanwhile, is a content creator who rose to fame with his skits of the character Auntie Julie. —Nika Roque/MGP, GMA Integrated News
