The image of Jesus Nazareno was brought out of Quiapo Churh in Manila late Thursday evening for the Good Friday procession.

As of posting time, the procession is currently crossing Quezon Boulevard.

According to GMA News’s Jhomer Apresto, the image was brought out of the church at 11:33 pm or over 20 minutes earlier compared to originally scheduled 12 midnight. Compared to last year, the preparation started 13 minutes later.

The Quiapo Church said that the devotional procession is led by Hijos Del Nazarenos and the faithful “Mamamasan” or bearers of the statue.

“The whole Good Friday morning procession reminds the bitterness of the passion of Christ, from the carrying of His cross until the three painful hours being crucified at the cross and up to His death,” church officials added.

While there is no Mass celebrated at the church, Quiapo Church announced that the faithul can participate in prayers beginning at 6 am. The procession is expected to return before 12 noon.

(Lord Jesus of Nazareth, You who carried the cross for our salvation, join us in this holy procession. Save us from harm, protect every devotee, and fill our hearts with faith and hope.)

Amen!"
