Museo del Galeón holds inaugural opening in Pasay City
Museo del Galeón in Pasay City is set to open to the public soon!
Museo del Galeón held its inaugural opening on Thursday, led by First Lady Liza Marcos and the Board of Trustees of the museum in its location at the SM Mall of Asia.
According to Education Secretary Sonny Angara, the museum is a state-of-the-art educational landmark, the highlight of which is a full-scale representation of the 17th century Galeón Espíritu Santo, which was built in Cavite in 1603.
The Galeón Espíritu Santo took part in the Manila-Acapulco voyages from 1603 to 1613 through the trade route El Tornaviaje, discovered by Andres de Urdaneta.
"Nirerepresenta nito ang mahigit 250 taon ng Manila-Acapulco trade, na siyang nagpatunay sa mahalagang papel ng Pilipinas sa pandaigdigang kalakalan at kasaysayan, Sonny Angara said in a Facebook post Friday.
The secretary added that the museum realizes the vision of his father, the late Senator Edgardo Angara, who believed that oceans are not barriers but vital links that bring nations and civilizations closer.
The late Angara is the founding chairman of Museo del Galeón, Inc.
The Museo del Galeón will open to the public on May 1.
Its operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays to Sundays.
