MMFF 2026 unveils first four official entries

The first four official entries to the 52nd Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) were unveiled on Tuesday, giving moviegoers an early look at some of the highly anticipated films set to hit theaters this December.

The announcement was made during the kickoff event of the 2026 MMFF held at GH Mall in San Juan.

Leading the first batch of official entries is “2nd Miracle in Cell Number 7,” headlined by Aga Muhlach, serving as the sequel to the 2019 Filipino adaptation of the hit Korean drama.

Also making the lineup is "Amir," produced by GMA Pictures, starring Argus Aspiras, Dennis Trillo, Will Ashley, and Glaiza de Castro. The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Zig Dulay.

Completing the initial roster are the horror film "Haunted Carnival," directed by Joey De Guzman, featuring an ensemble cast led by Julia Barretto, Fyang Smith, Maricel Soriano, James Reid, and John Arcilla; and "The Greatest Showdown," directed by Jun Robles-Lana, which stars comedy icons Vice Ganda and Vic Sotto.

Earlier, Atty. Don Artes, chairperson of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and overall chair of the MMFF, announced that cinema ticket prices during the festival will be capped at P299.

"Nagkasundo kami ng Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines na ang presyo ng tickets sa sinehan ay hindi dapat lalagpas ng P299," Artes said.

He clarified that the price ceiling will apply only during the festival period and that tickets may even cost less in some areas.

"Ito po ay during festival period lamang, at 'yung P299 ay maximum. Pwede pa bumaba, lalo na sa mga probinsya," he added. — LA, GMA News
