Five Kapuso classrooms inaugurated in Cebu
Five new Kapuso classrooms built by the GMA Kapuso Foundation were recently inaugurated at Panugnawan Elementary School in Medellin, Cebu, and Talisay Integrated School in Daanbantayan, Cebu.
According to "24 Oras" Monday, the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked Cebu in 2025 damaged several classrooms in Panugnawan Elementary School, which left some of its students to have their classes in a covered court.
In March 2026, the GMA Kapuso Foundation began the construction of Kapuso classrooms with comfort rooms in the school. The three classrooms in Panugnawan Elementary School were finally inaugurated after five months.
Per the report, the Kapuso classrooms can withstand wind speeds of up to 280 kilometers per hour.
The foundation also donated a smart TV that can be used by teachers in their classes, as well as planted trees and vegetable seeds to help in the school's feeding program.
"We really need this kind of help," said CESO V Division Superintendent Senen Priscillo Paulin in Filipino. "The shortage of classrooms is very much [felt]. We are very grateful to GMA Kapuso Foundation and its partners."
Meanwhile, two Kapuso classrooms with their own comfort rooms were inaugurated at the Talisay Integrated School in Daanbantayan. These also featured a smart TV, recycled armchairs, and a PWD ramp.
"These are the areas that were hard-hit by the earthquake. We know that the children and the parents are very worried, so I hope this eases them because the Kapuso schools are earthquake-resistant up to intensity 8," said GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP and COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog in a mix of Filipino and English.
Cut Unlimited Inc. and Noel Bazaar were among the partners that supported the foundation in its construction of the Kapuso classrooms in Cebu.
For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, Shopee, and Palawan Pay. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
