Jenni sais quoi: Jenni Epperson and her new fashion and style book
By AMANDA LAGO, GMA News
There’s a certain something about Jenni Epperson that compels people to stop and listen to what she has to say.
It’s not just that she has managed to be both aspirational and approachable. It’s not just her sharp eye for style, or her candid manner. These qualities alone are already a deadly combination, but there is something more — a certain je ne sais quoi (cannot be adequately described or expressed) that publisher Xandra Ramos-Padilla caught on to and decided to turn into a book.
"Love, family, and food. At the end of the day, that's all we need," says Jenni Epperson. Amanda Lago
It was about time too. With her blog’s massive following and her established status as the modern mom's role model and celebrity go-to girl for anything fashion related, a book deal was a natural progression. And so, after a lot of brainstorming, writing and late-night photo shoots, Jenni's Fashion + Food: Entertaining at Home in Style came to be.
The celebrity stylist was emotional as she launched her book last December 6 in front of her followers, famous friends, and family. Between tearful thank-yous and touching messages from her daughter Aryanna and husband Tom, Jenni managed to share the concept behind the book.

"This book is really about celebrating life. I wanted to create something that will not only be a fun book or an entertaining book, but something to nourish you from within."
The book celebrates life indeed, covering the usual special occasions like Christmas, Halloween, and birthdays, but also including chapters that make occasions out of normal events—Sunday brunch, for instance, or girls' night in. Following the book's title, each chapter begins with a formula (laid out in the most eye-catching way possible, by layout artist Dix Perez) that goes something like this: what to wear + what to eat = special occasion. Bursting with mouthwatering homegrown recipes for classic dishes like lemon shrimp scampi pasta and chocolate sheet cake with cream cheese frosting, the book definitely gets the food part down pat.
It isn't just a cookbook though, as the title suggests. There is also the fashion element, which is woven into the book not just through the fashion sketches (done by the talented Kris Abrigo and Soleil Ignacio) but also through the beautiful table settings, which tie in the fashion and food elements so seamlessly.
With its neat, appealing design, uncomplicated recipes, practical tips, and Jenni's engaging tone, it's a helpful guide for the hapless hostess, and such a fun read in general, that by the end of it, one wishes there were more special occasions to celebrate.
And perhaps there is, at least for Jenni. If this book turns out to be as popular as her blog (by the looks of it, that's where it's headed), she might have to add a chapter on book launches. The next book, she said, is going to be different: "I really don't know [what the next book will be]...something unexpected...still fashion, but unexpected." –KG, GMA News
